“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”
Matthew 13:44 is a verse that has radically changed my life over the past few years. It suddenly became clear: Christianity is joyfully giving up anything and everything to have more of God. God is meant to be our supreme satisfaction and our greatest Treasure. The pursuit of anything else before Him will leave the seeker with a frustrating void. When God is everything, suddenly we do not need anything else. Joyfully, other things start to lose their equity in our lives.
The phrase, “in his joy,” is what jumped off the page for me. Did the man sell everything because he felt like he had to? Did he do it to impress God? No, he did it in his joy. This is Christianity. Abandonment does not reveal the Treasure; the Treasure creates the abandonment. When we discover God as our greatest Treasure, our joy is found in nothing else. Possessions mean nothing. Sin loses its grip. Suddenly, the Christian will surrender anything to have more of Christ. The man sold everything to buy the field. The Treasure was worth the abandonment. You can find the same to be true!
I have decided to give my life to this message. It has changed my life, and I pray it will do the same for others. 13forty4 was created to proclaim from the rooftops that Christ alone will satisfy the seeking heart. An enlightenment of God brings joy, and that joy causes abandonment. Anything else will be a chasing after the wind. We are called to treasure God, enjoy Him, pursue Him, and ultimately glorify Him. The end result is joy, and joy is exactly what your heart was made for. 13forty4 is dedicated to providing resources to help people discover God as their greatest Treasure. Until your heart is satisfied in God, you will always be lost in the search.
