“Thou madest us for Thyself, and our heart is restless, until it rest in Thee.”
Made For God
This week’s Thursday Thought is a popular quote from Saint Augustine. To summarize, Augustine is saying that our hearts will always be restless until they rest in what they were made to rest in: God. I love this and couldn’t agree more! You were made for God. Until your heart is satisfied in Him, it will continue to search and search in endless, empty things.
Do you see God in this way? Have you found Him to be the only thing that sets your heart free? Does your heart find its rest in Him? I believe your life will change if He reveals Himself to you in this way.
I want to lead you in a common prayer, regardless of the current state of your heart. My challenge is for you to pray this prayer for the next seven days. It is a prayer of Moses, and if your heart is still searching, I pray that God would reveal Himself and satisfy your soul as you pray to Him. If your heart is already resting in God, I pray that He would take you to an even deeper experience of the contentment and joy that is found in Him.
“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” (Psalm 90:14)
God is all that satisfies. He made us for Himself. Our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. When that happens, we will be glad all our days. The joy we all want is found in God. Satisfy us, Lord!
